SportMed 2022 defines the future of sports medicine

Two-day 17th edition of the International Scientific Conference on the Current State and Development Prospects of the Elite Sports Medicine – SportMed 2022 has opened at EXPOCENTRE today.

It is held within Russian Health Care Week 2022 by the Russian Ministry of Health Care, the Russian Ministry of Sports, the Federal Medical and Biological Agency, the Russian Association for Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation of Patients and the Disabled (RASMIBRI), the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, the Federal Research and Clinical Centre of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation FMBA Russia, and EXPOCENTRE AO.

The conference began with a meeting on the development of sports medicine in the regions of the Russian Federation. It was moderated by Boris Polyayev, Chief Specialist for Sports Medicine of the Russian Ministry of Health Care.

In his welcome address to the meeting and conference participants, Russian Minister of Health Care Mikhail Murashko mentioned that the Russian Government had set the priorities in development of physical culture and mass sport in this country for the long-term period. They include the modernisation of the system of physical education, implementation of measures aimed to promote healthy lifestyle, physical culture and sport, HR, research, methodological and medical support. According to the data collected in the Russian regions, over seven million people were treated in sports medicine facilities in 2022, which is almost one and a half times more than in previous years and shows the demand for sports medicine in this country.

The meeting was attended by Russian Deputy Minister of Health Care Andrey Plutnitsky, Russian Deputy Minister of Sport Alexey Morozov, Secretary of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport Alexey Kulakovsky, Chair at the Committee on Health Care and Health Protection of the Russian State Duma Leonid Ogul, and Director of the Health Care Ministry's Specialised Department Inna Kulikova.

The meeting was followed by a session of the specialised commission for sports medicine of the Russian Ministry of Health Care, heads of medical and fitness services of Russia, and heads of relevant departments of medical and physical education colleges.

The conference includes panels and sections on new developments in the practice of sports medicine, sports traumatology and orthopaedics, cardiology and psychology, as well as problems of young athletes that are not characteristic of their age.

The conference continues its work.
